Well Rounded Lessons

What should be included in a well rounded lesson? This can vary depending on the week, but in general, I believe there should be these elements.

1) Playing the assignment from the previous week. Show me what you worked on. Tell me what you found challenging and what strategies you used to meet the challenge.

2) Learning a new concept or skill. If you pass the previous assignment, we will go on to new things. We will cover the topic for the week and apply it in your songs.

3) A theory based activity. Note reading practice. Interval games. Scales or chords. It's all about gaining a greater understanding of how music works.

4) Review. A lot of times this is part of the theory based activity. We are just working on fluency or speed. This can also be doing simple exercises to review technique. Or revisiting an old piece that you liked or struggled with but have improved in skill enough that you can play it better now.

5) Verify that the student understands their assignment and address any questions before wrapping up.
