How to Chose a Recital Song

If you have a recital coming up and your teacher lets you pick what you want to play, here are some tips to make a great choice.

1) Chose a song you like. You're going to practice it a LOT, so you'd better chose one you like a LOT.

2) Chose a song that is a little on the easy side. You don't have to show off everything you can do in a recital, especially if you can't do it all super well yet. Don't pick something boring, but make sure you don't have to learn a bunch of new skills to play it well.

3) Chose according to a theme (if there is one). If the recital has a theme, make sure your song choice fits in it. You don't want to be the odd man out!

4) Chose a reasonable length. Don't be the person that plays for 30 seconds or for 10 minutes. Two to Three pages at your level is normally a pretty reasonable length of song.

5) Once your song is chosen and approved, practice, practice, practice!
