How Online Lessons Work

The more I talk with people and mention that I teach piano both in person and online, the main question I get is how online lessons work. Today, I am going to give some answers!

1) Online lessons work very much like in person lessons in that I, your friendly teacher, will plan which songs and skills to work on during the lesson/what the assignment will be for practice during the week.

2) Lessons are still for 30 or 45 minutes once a week, but instead of meeting in a physical room, we meet in an online classroom via webcam on a computer, tablet, or phone. The student is at home and the teacher is at her home studio (yay for no commutes!). We figure out a way to set up the webcam so that we can see eachother's faces when talking and hands when playing.

3) The lesson structure itself is the same: student plays assignments from previous week. Teacher gives feedback. Learn new skill and/or song. Work on skills. Give practice assignment.

4) Student practices assignment during the week and teacher plans for the next lesson based on what student accomplished in the previous week.

There you have it. all you need to know about how online lessons work.
