How Are They All on the Same Songs????

Lately, I've been noticing an interesting phenomenon. All of my students that are in the same book are clustering on the same songs/pages of the books. Basically, in any two week time frame, they are overlapping at least one piece. At first, I assumed it was because they all started at the same time and went at approximately the same pace. Wrong! For example, in the level 2A book, I have three students who are on the same pages/one finishes it this week while another starts it, but I'm covering the same song. And two of the three did start at the same time...the other is a student I inherited from another teacher. How are they all at the same point? And this is happening all over the place...at each level. There are one or two places in the books that all the students in that level are working through, so I keep teaching the same material multiple times each week. This works out well in some ways and is frustrating in others. Here are some pros and cons:

Pros:

1) I know exactly what I need to prep the students for in each song.

2) For songs that are harder/I haven't taught as much in general, I only have to prep one time for multiple students.

3) I can compare how different students are playing it/form stronger expectations for what that level student can do with the song.

Cons:

1) I'm teaching the same material, but it's not the same lesson. The student is different, so I have to adjust accordingly. This can be harder when I've already taught the same material that day/week.

2) It's harder to remember what I've already said and what I haven't to this particular student. I mean, I remember saying this today, but was it to you?

3) It's harder to keep track of who was struggling with what/what specific instructions I gave to each student.

It is what it is...mainly, just an interesting coincidence that I've been noticing more as I have more students from different places and different previous experience levels.
